Coco 2: Pixar Returns to the Land of the Dead

Coco 2 continues Pixar's Oscar winner, with Lee Unkrich and Adrian Molina back and plot details unrevealed. Walt Disney Studios, in theaters 22 November 2029.

Pixar is going back to one of its most loved and awarded films, with the upcoming sequel, Coco 2.

Expected to hit theaters in November of 2029, this new movie takes place several years later and has Miguel Rivera, now an adult, returning to the Land of the Dead.

During the D23 Expo in August of 2026, Disney shared some new details about the plot and confirmed the return of actor Benjamin Bratt as Ernesto de la Cruz.

Directed by Lee Unkrich and Adrian Molina, who also co-directed the first movie, this new sequel aims to continue the family tradition of music, love, and remembering their ancestors.

Coco 2: Pixar Returns to the Land of the Dead

What Is Coco 2 About?

The original Coco followed 12 year old Miguel on his quest to understand his family's ancestry with music and discover his passion for it.

Miguel made a journey to the Land of the Dead where his encounters changed his life and helped heal his family.

The sequel will show Miguel at a different stage of his life.

Disney shared that Miguel is now a teenager. His new journey to the Land of the Dead will shape his future and serve as a continuation of the first movie, with new characters and new adventures including the return of Ernesto de la Cruz.

Erasing the shadows of Miguel's previous journey with the return of Ernesto suggests that there may be new obstacles that shape Miguel's journey in this new adventure.

Unfortunately, the production studio has not given more insight as to how Ernesto will serve to progress the new story.

More complete summaries and additional details on characters are yet to be disclosed.

Miguel will be older and will be portrayed as a teenager in the sequel.

He was a child in the first film, so creating the opportunity for him to be a teenager is meaningful as it makes him interrogate questions of identity and responsibilities, both personally and as a family member.

Disney has not revealed Miguel's aspirations in the film.

Music played a pivotal role in Miguel's first journey, but it remains to be seen if music will take the same central role this time around. The maturation of Miguel will also grant a different perspective and emotional value to the Land of the Dead.

Rather than rehashing the same ideas as the first movie, the filmmakers will have an opportunity to explore how childhood notions and discoveries transform and carry over into the teenage years.

The film will not be released in time for audiences searching for animation using phrases such as "Vidmate APK" to see Disney/Pixar films. Such searches do not correlate with the films' releases.

Official information on the production has come from Disney and Pixar.

Benjamin Bratt will reprise his role of Ernesto de la Cruz.

During the 2026 D23 presentation, Disney confirmed Bratt's return.

Initially, Miguel idolized Ernesto for being a great musician and for being a figure worthy of admiration.

Eventually, Miguel's idolization turned to disappointment when the truth of Ernesto's past was revealed.

Ernesto may be serving a different function in this movie, or possibly a different role altogether.

No official announcements have been made by Disney about the full returning voice cast.

So, we can't assume that all the original performers will return to their roles.

The filmmakers have lots of options in terms of the narrative, but a limited portion of the story of this sequel has been revealed.

The Original Creative Team Reunites

Lee Unkrich will direct Coco 2, after his directorial work on the first movie.

He previously won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature for Coco, and co-directed and co-wrote the movie, Toy Story 3.

Adrian Molina will also be co-directing this movie after directing and writing Coco and also co-writing Toy Story 3.

Mark Nielsen has producing credits on Toy Story 4 and will also be producing Coco 2.

The original Coco won two Academy Awards, including Best Animated Feature Film and Best Original Song.

It also won recognition for making visual representations of the Día de los Muertos and Mexican culture.

The greatest challenge for this new movie will be telling a new emotional story that shows the aspirations and dreams of people across the Día de los Muertos and Coco world.

The first Coco incorporated important aspects of Mexican culture and folklore in a fantasy world with family, music and memories.

Miguel's journey helped answer important questions regarding how we balance our aspirations and the dreams of our older relatives.

Disney has officially confirmed Miguel's return to this world of the dead.

Viewers should not take mentions of Vidmate Download APK to mean that there is any kind of formal streaming announcement or promotion tie-in.

Disney has confirmed a theatrical release and other details on the release are yet to be revealed.

Coco 2 Release Date and Expectations

Pixar has confirmed Coco 2 for an exclusive theatrical release in November 2029.

There is some speculation that Coco 2 will be released on November 22 as that is shown on some release calendars. However, it should be noted that Pixar's website only states November 2029.

Other names in the cast, the full story and a trailer have not yet been announced.

The returning characters of Miguel and Ernesto indicate that the relationship aspect of the first movie will be extended.

Miguel is now in adolescence and that means the film can touch upon different emotions.

The original creative team behind Coco is returning and the world they created is also ready for new adventures and that's why Coco 2 is one of Pixar's most anticipated movies.
