The first major theatrical release set in the world of Westeros is on the horizon with the upcoming release of Game of Thrones: Aegon's Conquest by Warner Bros. Pictures.
Taking place over a millennium before the events of the television series, Game of Thrones, and scheduled for release on June 1, 2029, it will explore the origins of the Targaryen dynasty, one of the dominant families in George R.R. Martin's fictional world.
Owen Harris is set to direct, and Beau Willimon has been tasked with the screenplay.
Though the release has an announced date, the cast and an official synopsis have yet to be released.
The film has the chance to fill in large historical gaps in Westeros that have largely been unexplored in the franchise's previous television adaptations.

What Is Aegon's Conquest About?
The film will most likely be centered on Aegon I Targaryen, better known as Aegon the Conqueror.
Around three hundred years before the events portrayed in the television series Game of Thrones, Aegon the Conqueror and his family invaded Westeros with their dragons, conquered the kingdoms of the continent, and founded the monarchy that would dominate and shape the rest of the fictional world's history.
The account of Aegon the Conqueror is depicted in George R.R. Martin's book Fire & Blood.
Warner Bros. has yet to release an official statement outlining which of these events, in particular, the movie will cover.
Aegon Targaryen is one of the most important figures in Westerosi history. The entire continent was divided into multiple kingdoms. Each kingdom was ruled by its own monarch. Each king was preoccupied with his own internal politics. With the arrival of Aegon and his sisters, along with their dragons, everything changed.
Visenya and Rhaenys were also important figures in the events described in the books. Each of the three Targaryens had a powerful dragon: Balerion, Vhagar and Meraxes.
Their campaign changed the political landscape of the continent and the construction of the Iron Throne became a defining symbol of royal authority.
All of these events are important elements of Westerosi history. How they are represented in the screenplay is still a mystery.
Fans of fantasy entertainment can find related (but not the same) productions by searching for the Cocoflix app download. It is important to distinguish between productions and confirm that they are actually related to the announced productions of the movie.
Aegon's story is filled with a lot of political maneuvering and military campaigns. Because of the nature of these events, it may require an epic scale for the screen. Based on that, Warner Bros may be planning for something on the scale of the Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings adaptations.
Final budget, filming locations, and visual effects are still unknown.
Creative and technical decisions will likely shape the final product to a greater extent than is currently known.
Beau Willimon is one of the most high-profile writers to take on the project. He created the popular political drama series House of Cards. Willimon also wrote for the political drama series Andor which is set in the Star Wars universe.
Willimon's experience with political drama is especially pertinent in the context of Aegon's conquest since there are multiple ruling houses, changing alliances, and characters with competing objectives.
There are a multitude of ways to emphasize and interpret the history depicted in the source material and adapt it for the screen. The production has not commented on whether the film will cover the entire conquest or select pivotal moments.
Details about the screenplay are still not available.
Although it is set in the same fictional universe as A Song of Ice and Fire and will possibly interweave with other stories set there, like Game of Thrones or House of the Dragon, it will cover a much earlier time than A Song of Ice and Fire.
As an earlier entry to the series, this film will give audiences a chance to see the beginnings of the institutions, rivalries, and traditions that are part of the franchise.
Being an earlier entry to the series does not necessarily mean that the actors from the previous TV series will appear in this film, but the studio has not made any casting announcements to date.
Fans should not interpret the term "Coco Flix" as evidence of the film's official digital distribution.
Warner Bros. Pictures has the announced theatrical distribution rights.
Release Date and Other Announcements
The film currently has a release date of June 1, 2029.
During Warner Bros.' CinemaCon in April 2026, the studio revealed the project, and they identified two of the key creative members.
The actor that will play Aegon I has not been revealed.
The studio has not revealed the rest of the principal cast, when they plan to start filming, or released any trailers.
George R.R. Martin's novels will likely serve as the basis for the film, but the studio has not announced any additional details.
It is in the earliest years of the Targaryen Dynasty's invasion of Westeros, which makes it unique among the films in the franchise.
For fans of the television series, Aegon's Conquest will provide a different time period and historical view of the fictional world that will show the genesis of the conflicts for the Iron Throne.
